Probably just due to regulations for it's race-class I presume. Or to be able to take mrs. Jobjoris for a spin after the race (the passenger side is just covered). Or, because Italian, to take your mechanic along if it's a race that will take over 30 minutes to complete.

But probably the first one, it competed against this Lotus 9 back then: Same story except for RHD:

The engine is in the wrong place for that as well. It's somewhat older than a 914 as well.

It's a Boano Abart 207A. From 1955.
